Pressure pipe flow
ARTS provides a comprehensive suite of analytical tools for solving steady pipe flow problems, giving the user maximum flexibility in system specification, including the insertion of fittings, such as bends, valves etc.. Provided the interconnected system of pipes is drawn correctly on the design sheet and has a feasible set of boundary conditions, ARTS will compute the flow and pressure distribution and print the results on the sheet graphic.

Illustrative output from the steady pipe flow analytical tools is presented on (a), (b), (c) and (d). (a) shows the interactive pipe computation property page which provides immediate analysis during data input and (b) the pipe calculator dialog, which can be used for analysing single pipe flow/head loss characteristics. (c) shows the screen output for a simple water distribution network, while (d) illustrates the analysis of a pump/rising main system.

    Flow of sewage in pipes
The flow object on the ARTS tool palette can be set to water/wastewater, at a user-specified temperature, or to sewage sludge of a specified category and solids concentration. The included sludge types are primary sludge, activated sludge, humus sludge and digested sludge. The analytical functionality described above for water/wastewater flow computation is also available for the analysis of sludge flow in pipes.
