Overview

ARTS facilitates the hydraulic design of wastewater treatment plants at two levels:

  • the property pages for individual treatment unit objects enable the user to carry out an internal hydraulic design of the treatment unit.
  • the Hydraulic Profile analysis function performs a calculation across an entire WWTP.

Using ARTS to calculate hydraulic profiles

The TWLs, which define the hydraulic profile across the system, are computed with reference to a user input datum level at the outlet node of the system. In computing head loss across the system, ARTS automatically takes entry and exit losses into account, as well as the local losses at pipe junctions, where there is a change in diameter. In addition the user can edit the interconnecting pipes to add fittings such as bends, valves etc..

ARTS can also create an intial design once the user has drawn all the elements of the system on the screen. The AUTO DESIGN feature will create an intial design which is capable of transmitting the maximum flow. The user can then refine this design, considerably descreasing design time.
